Year on Earth
The year on Earth refers to the amount of time needed for our planet to complete one orbit around the Sun or calendar years for specific calendar systems.
The length of a calendar year varies according to different solar and lunisolar systems. In the Gregorian calendar, it begins on January 1 and concludes on December 31; on the Chinese lunar calendar, however, a lunar year typically lasts 354 days, with any discrepancies being known as leap days.
Astronomers use an alternative measure of Earth’s year, known as the tropical year. This timescale takes into account the passage of vernal equinox events; it differs from sidereal year by 20 minutes due to Earth’s axial precession.

Neptune experiences seasons lasting 164.8 Earth years due to being so far from the sun.
Along with these factors, a planet’s day length and year length can also vary based on its orbital period. As a general rule, planets with shorter orbital periods tend to have longer days compared with planets with greater ones – the exception being Venus, which boasts both short orbital periods and relatively rapid axial rotation but has rather long days due to this.
Years Between Two Dates
When trying to determine how long ago something took place, you can use the number of years between two dates as an indicator. Subtract one from another using the year number – so if the current date is 2022 and its previous one was 2013, then 35 years have elapsed between them.
If you don’t know the year numbers for both dates, dividing by 12 will help you estimate their number of years; 30 months is equal to 2.5 years, for example.
