Chang has been diligently recording activity at his properties for months, capturing videos that have gone viral, garnering interest from local media, and raising questions among residents and business owners in Jackson Heights. Public prostitution has gained wider exposure since an incident involving women and children outside an open-air sex market in Queens’ Jackson Heights resulted in their attack against a taxi driver.
Many neighborhoods across the nation are facing similar issues. As economic and social hardship continues to worsen in a post-Covid world, those on edge are being further driven into poverty – so it is crucial that city officials, including police forces, take every possible measure to combat this problem.
Lower West Side residential neighborhoods consist of small (2 to 4 bedroom) and medium (5-6 bedroom) apartment buildings and townhouses with low vacancy rates of 9.3%; this rate is significantly below that seen across New York City as a whole. Most housing stock was constructed between 1940 and 1969, with some older buildings being transformed into commercial or retail space while others being demolished to make way for new developments, particularly near Columbia University in its center.
The Upper West Side

Although the neighborhood is known for its vibrant cultural and entertainment scene, it has recently earned a lousy reputation for prostitution. Newly, several brothels have opened in the area, and some residents have expressed concern about their effect on the site; some even requested police presence to regulate it further. However, according to NYPD, enforcement efforts are focused on areas with complaints.
